WELCOME TO THE 5TH BERGEN ART BOOK FAIR! + AAPIE
This is Cecilie writing - I’m very happy to once again be blogging for Bergen Zines. The occasion is of course the 5th version of Bergen Art Book Fair (BABF), which I'll try to make (even) more accessible to you though a couple of blog posts.
So the fair opened yesterday, in the spacious halls of Bergen Kunsthall. It’s grown a bit since last year, this time hosting in total 50 Norwegian and international participants. The fair program even includes a bunch of presentations, a couple of seminars and a panel discussion, not to mention several book launches (and lunches) as well as a couple of parties.
I want to start off my weekend of blogging by paying attention to some of the participants who travelled quite far to get to Bergen. First out, AAPIE, an organization based in Rosario, Argentina.
AAPIE is represented at the fair by Maria Virginia Molinari. She is one of the 7 artists who founded AAPIE (also known as the «Association of friends of independent publications»). The whole project stems from a series of casual Sunday meetings, where the seven friends would meet up to show each other selected books and zines. Soon they came up with the idea of sharing these publications with a bigger audience, through video documentation. To make artist’s books and zines more visible is still the core of their project, and the result is a continuously expanding online library. Their focus is mainly on artists from Argentina, specially from the Rosario area where they are situated.
AAPIE have previously hosted their own art book events: in 2016 an event called A4, which in 2017 grew into the two-day fair A0. They have also been represented at other fairs, such as Feira Plana in Sao Paolo this year. There, they even had their debut as a publisher, releasing their (so far only) publication LBN667 by Juan Hernández. You can find that, and lots of other great publications they brought, at their stand at BABF.
Today, AAPIE have a talk at Bergen Art Book Fair, as a part of BABF's Friday seminar! It will be at Landmark at 6pm. Don’t miss it! Here is the facebookevent.
