Bergen Art Book Fair

Make your own artist’s book or zine and release it at this years Bergen Art Book Fair! This workshops gives you an introduction and the means needed to make a risograph printed publication featuring your own work. Participants at the workshop will have a booth at the art book fair where you can showcase and sell your books.

The workshop is hosted by Bergen Academy of Art and Design (KHiB) and Bergen Art Book Fair, with guest speakers Hato Press (London) and Jessica Williams (Oslo/US).

Price: 2000 kr. If you are a Grafill- or Visp-member: 1500. Students at KHiB: 900 kr.
Note! Two people can collaborate on one book, for the same price as one. You basically pay for the production of the book.
Duration: October/November. See full program below!
Price includes: Materials for the book (paper, riso and b&w-prints, binding)
Who can participate? You only need experience in developing your own creative content, as an artist, designer or author. Working on the content of the book will be done independently.

COURSE PROGRAM:

This course will help you make and publish your own book or zine with the risograph. The publication can be approx. 10 to 24 pages, and be printed in around 10–30 copies.

Part 1

Presentation by Bergen Zines and the zine library. What is a typical zine?
Brainstorming around ideas for your own books.

Hato Press, lecture and workshop.
Hato Press are from London, where they publish their own books and throw workshops in their studio space. Hato will give a workshop in making a mini-zine based on collage, and give an introduction to printing on the Risograph.
The lecture at the Library is open for the public, bring your friends!

This is a two night workshop where you will get an introduction to how set up a layout in inDesign, getting ready for print and what to think about when working with the cover design.

Printing on Riso

Jessica Williams is an experienced “riso­grapher”, and will help you print your book. Over the course of these two days each participant gets 1 hour to print.

We will present three different tutorials for book binding.

Participating at the Bergen Art Book Fair

The final destination for your book. Here you will get an introduction to the venue at Bergen Kunsthall, and we will together make a sales booth with your books. We will talk about prices and how to present the different books. You will be divided into groups to handle the sales during the fair from 20.–22.
